When Worlds Collide

A deadly obstacle course

During spring and fall migrations, when bird collisions are at their peak, FLAP (fatal light protection program) bird rescue patrols head out before sunrise searching city streets for birds that have hit windows.  Together, a network of volunteers transport birds to wildlife rehabilitation facilities. While FLAP has saved an impressive number of window-collision survivors, many do not survive the impact.  FLAP honours the fallen through an annual emotive and provocative display of the dead birds called "The Layout".
